Baixa do Pesqueiro Longo

With depths ranging between 6 and 96 metres, depending on the diving profile you choose, this site is accessible to all divers and suited for snorkelling and even technical dives. The top of the reef is just six metres deep, and its steep flanks are the ideal place for a safety or decompression stop as you can spend time observing the small colourful fish that surround the reef, including Mediterranean rainbow wrasses (Coris julis), ornate wrasses (Thalassoma pavo), Azores chromis (Chromis limbata), parrotfish (Sparisoma cretense), and schools of salema porgies (Sarpa salpa).

At a depth of 20 metres there is a platform that is ideal for spotting passing pelagic fish as well as larger demersal fish. Dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus), barred hogfish (Bodianus scrofa) and island groupers (Mycteroperca fusca) swim amidst large stretches of black coral (Antipathella wollastoni) and colourful swallowtail seaperches (Anthias anthias). During the summer months it is also possible to find small groups of graceful devil rays swimming around the reef.
