Baixa do Ferreiro de Dentro

With depths ranging between 5 and the 28 metres, depending on the diving profile you choose, this site is accessible to all divers and is also suited to snorkelling. The top of the reef is at a depth of five metres, ideal for a safety or decompression stop while you observe the cloud of small colourful fish that surround the reef. Among this display you are likely to spot Mediterranean rainbow wrasses (Coris julis), ornate wrasses (Thalassoma pavo), Azores chromis (Chromis limbata) and many others.

Close to the top of the reef there are several platforms between 10 and 15 metres which are perfect for spotting schools of pelagic fish. Almaco jacks (Seriola rivoliana), white trevallies (Pseudocaranx dentex), and yellowmouth barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis) are common at this site.

Descending towards the bottom to a depth of 25-30 metres, you will find the ideal place for spotting species that prefer to live at greater depths. These include dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus) and barred hogfish (Bodianus scrofa). During the summer months it is also possible to find small groups of graceful devil rays swimming around the reef.
