Baixa da ponta do Marco

The Baixa da Ponta do Marco (Marco Tip Reef) is located off the northwest tip of the island of Corvo, about 400 metres from shore, and the furthest dive site from the island’s quay. With the top of the reef some 20-25 metres deep in an area subject to currents, this site is only recommended for the most experienced divers.

The remote location makes it an excellent place to observe large schools of pelagic species, such as Almaco jacks (Seriola rivoliana), Atlantic bonitos (Sarda sarda) and yellowmouth barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis). The top of the reef, which steeply drops to 40-45 metres, also offers divers the opportunity to spot demersal fish, including dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus) and large island groupers (Mycteroperca fusca), along with common stingrays (Dasyatis pastinaca) and several species of moray eels.
