Arcos do Pocinho

In the Pocinho bathing area, with a privileged view over the Pico-Faial channel, you can dive into a fantastic seafloor with a great geological diversity and arches that shelter many species.

Reached from this bathing area, this dive begins at a depth of 9 metres above a lava flow that goes all the way down to 23 metres. As you start descending, you will see some rock formations that resemble valleys with an irregular bottom and end in the two joint arches that are the main feature of this dive site.

The cave which is contoured by the imposing arches shelters numerous species, from tiny crustaceans and colourful nudibranchs to sea slugs of Ceuta (Tambja ceutae) and the famous Azores chromis (Chromis limbata).

You may also be surprised by the usual schools of large pelagic fish, including yellowmouth barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis) and white trevallies (Pseudocaranx dentex).
