Depth
Baixio da Ponta da Queimada
This coastal reef is located about 250 metres from the shore, in front of the village of Queimada. Depending on the area you choose, depths range from between 10 and 70 metres, with the top of the reef between 10 and 24 metres. On calm days with no currents, divers with less experience can visit part of the site. More experienced divers can enjoy the deeper waters, with technical dives a possibility as the point where the reef plummets to 70 metres.
At the top of the reef you will find an interesting set of corridors formed by the lava flow, with small caves and cracks full of life. Several species of moray eels and small demersal fish are common here and, as you reach the edge of the reef, you will have the opportunity to spot schools of fish such as white trevallies (Pseudocaranx dentex) and Almaco jacks (Seriola rivoliana).
