Baixa do Amigo
Description
By boat
15 min from the Santa Cruz Quay
Depth
Baixa do Amigo
Although the top of the Baixa do Amigo (Friend Reef) is located at only 15 metres deep and can be explored by divers with little experience, the reef drops to 40 metres and is only recommended for those with experience.
Located on the east coast of the island of Flores, about 200 m from the shore in front of the Lomba Quay, this reef is a great place for spotting pelagic species. Formed by large slabs at different depths, it is an ideal place to wait for the arrival of schools of Almaco jacks (Seriola rivoliana), yellowmouth barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis), white trevallies (Pseudocaranx dentex) and Atlantic bonitos (Sarda sarda), along with many other species that are often seen in this spot feeding on dense clusters of blue jack mackerels (Trachurus picturatus).
