Ilhéu das Lagoínhas
This dive takes place about nine miles from the Vila do Porto Marina on the north coast of the island of Santa Maria, around the small Lagoinhas Islet. There are several reefs that surround the islet, ranging from the lowest at a depth of 22 metres and the shallowest at only five metres deep. At the top of the reef you can see a large number of fish species, including ornate wrasses (Thalassoma pavo), Azores chromis (Chromis limbata), several species of moray eels and grey triggerfish (Balistes carolinensis).
As the depth increases you can see some dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus), barred hogfish (Pseudolepidaplois scrofa) and even small groups of devil rays.
