Gamela
The Gamela is located in front of the Vila do Corvo Quay, a few dozen metres from the shore in a sheltered area with moderate depths. It is accessible to all divers and suitable for night dives and snorkelling.
Since this dive site is very close to the Caneiro dos Meros, it benefits from the abundance of marine life in the nearby voluntary reserve.
There is an extensive platform at low depth (between 6 and 10 metres) where you can visit two small caves, an area full of life with schools of several species, including Azores chromis (Chromis limbata), salema porgies (Sarpa salpa), ornate wrasses (Thalassoma pavo), blacktail combers (Serranus atricauda), parrotfish (Sparisoma cretense), and several species of moray eels.
On the edges of the reef, depth drops to about 20 metres. Divers at 12 metres will be able to see large schools of blue jack mackerels (Trachurus picturatus) surrounded by large pelagic fish, such as yellowmouth barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis), Almaco jacks (Seriola rivoliana) and Bermuda chubs (Kyphosus sectator).
